Creating a New Department
Departments keep a team’s workflows, runs and people separate from the rest of the account. Creating one takes a moment.
Who can create a department
You need to be an admin in your Master Department — a Master Admin. Being an admin of an individual department is not enough. Understanding the Master Department in Manifestly explains the difference.
Creating it
There are two places to start:
- On the team management page, press New Department.
- Or from the Workflows page, open the Manage menu and choose New Department.
Either way you’ll be asked for:
- A name — required.
- A time zone — this is what due dates and reminders in the department are calculated against. It starts out matching your account’s time zone, so leave it alone unless this team works elsewhere.
- A signup message — optional, shown to people joining this particular department. Customize your invitation signup message covers it.
Press Create and you are added to the new department as an admin automatically.
After you create it
A new department starts empty. To populate it, you can pull people across from a department that already exists rather than inviting them again — see Add existing users to new department.
A few settings only appear once the department exists, so open its settings again to find them. Workflow versioning is one of these, and it appears only if your account has that feature.
