Setting up SMS notifications

Manifestly can send your notifications by text message as well as by email, Slack, Microsoft Teams and in the browser. SMS suits people who are not at a desk: field staff, drivers, technicians, anyone whose work happens away from a screen.

SMS is an account feature. If you do not see the option in your settings, it is not switched on for your account.

Add and verify your number

  1. Open your personal settings and find the SMS section.
  2. Enter your mobile number.
  3. A verification code is texted to you. Enter it to confirm the number.

Once verified, your settings show the confirmed number. Remove takes it off again. Until a number is verified it is not used, so half-finished setup means no texts rather than texts going astray.

Choose what you get by SMS

Verifying a number does not route everything to it. Notification preferences decide which events reach you and by which channel, so set SMS for the things that genuinely need interrupting and leave the rest on email. See Notifications Overview.

If texts stop arriving

Your settings tell you when delivery has failed, with the reason the carrier gave. Two common cases:

  • You replied STOP at some point. The number is unsubscribed, and re-verifying will not fix it on its own. Text START to the Manifestly number from that phone to opt back in, then verify again.
  • The carrier rejected it for another reason. The message names the reason; re-verify, or use a different number.

A number that has changed hands or been ported is worth removing and re-adding rather than leaving verified.
