Send custom SMS message on step complete
Overview
You can customize a workflow step so that an SMS message is sent every time the step completes. This article explains how to set up a step to send a custom SMS, use a phone number from a data collection field as the recipient, and personalize the message with tokens from run data and data collection fields.
Configure SMS on Step Completion
Follow these steps to enable and configure the SMS message that is sent when the step finishes.
- Open your workflow in the editor and select the step you want to trigger with an SMS on completion.
- Enable the option to send an SMS when the step completes.
- Set the recipient to the data collection field that stores the phone number.
- In the message body, compose your SMS and insert tokens from data collection fields as well as run-related data to personalize the content.
- Save the workflow (confirm your settings). The system will send an SMS each time the step completes.
Choosing the recipient
- Use the phone number stored in a data collection field within the workflow. This ensures the SMS is sent to the correct contact for each run.
Customizing the message body
- In the SMS body, insert tokens from data collection fields to include dynamic information relevant to the run.
- Include run-related variables (e.g., timestamps, run identifiers) to provide context in the message.
Tokens and Data Sources
You can mix tokens from two sources to build your message:
- Variables based on data related to the run (e.g., run-level details).
- Variables from data collection fields within this workflow (e.g., the phone number field and other collected data).
Using these tokens in the body allows the SMS to reflect specific information for each completed step.
What happens after setup
Once configured, every time the specified workflow step completes, the system sends an SMS to the recipient with the customized content you defined.
