Adding Notes to an Ad Hoc Run Task
A task title should be short enough to scan. Notes are where the detail goes, so the list stays readable and the context is still there when you come to do the work.
Add a note
- Click the three-dot menu on the task.
- Choose Notes.
- Type into the text area and click Save Notes.
The note appears under the task title in the list, so it is visible without opening anything.
What to put in a note
Anything the person doing the task needs and the title should not carry:
- the link, reference number or file it concerns
- who to contact, and how
- what "done" means, when it is not obvious
- why the task exists, if it will not be obvious in a fortnight
Notes can be edited, so use them for the current state of a task rather than as a running log. If you find yourself keeping a history in a note, the thing you want is probably a comment or a separate task.
