Slack Startup Guide – Users
If your organisation has connected Manifestly to Slack, you can do your day-to-day work without leaving Slack. This guide is for the people doing the work rather than the admin who set it up.
First, workflows and runs
A workflow is the template: Customer Onboarding, New Employee Orientation, Weekly IT Tasks. A run is one time through it, where the work actually happens and gets ticked off. One workflow, many runs. See The difference between Workflows and Runs.
Where to work in Slack
- The Manifestly bot's Home tab, your own view of what is assigned to you. This is the main one, and the place to start each day.
- A direct message to the bot, for working a run in private.
- A channel, where a team follows a run together. See Receiving notifications within a Slack Channel.
Bots cannot join private or group DMs between people, which is a Slack restriction. Use a private channel instead. See Using Manifestly inside private DMs and group DMs.
What you can do from Slack
- See what is assigned to you and what is late
- Start a run from a workflow
- Complete and skip steps
- Add comments
For anything more involved, such as editing the workflow itself, open Manifestly on the web.
Your notifications
Which Manifestly events reach you in Slack is your own setting, on the Slack tab of your notification settings. If Slack is too noisy or too quiet, that is where to change it rather than muting the bot entirely. See Notifications Overview.
