Using Manifestly inside private DMs and group DMs
Slack does not let bots into private direct messages or group DMs. That is a Slack restriction rather than a Manifestly one, and it cannot be worked around, so any plan that depends on the bot joining a DM will not work.
The three places that do work
- The Manifestly bot's Home tab, your own private view of your assignments and runs. This is the closest thing to a private workspace and is where most individual use happens.
- A direct message to the Manifestly bot, which is a conversation with the bot itself rather than a DM between people.
- A channel, public or private. A private channel needs the bot invited first. See Private Slack Channels.
If you wanted a private space
People usually reach for a group DM because they want a small, quiet place for a piece of work. A private channel with the bot invited does that job, and has the advantage that it survives people joining and leaving, which a group DM does not.
