Deleting and Restoring Steps and Sections
You can delete an individual Step or a whole Section from a Workflow and, in most cases, restore it later from the Workflow’s history.
How to delete a Step or a Section
In the Workflow editor, each Step has a red trash icon. Clicking it deletes that Step immediately — there is no separate Save step.
- Deleting a Step: The trash icon removes that single Step. No confirmation dialog is shown.
- Deleting a Section: Clicking the trash icon on a Section header asks you to confirm, because deleting a Section also deletes every Step inside it.
A deleted Step or Section is hidden from the editor and from any new Runs of the Workflow, but the record itself is kept so it can be restored.
How to restore a deleted Step or Section
Deletions and restorations are recorded in the Workflow’s history.
- Open the Workflow.
- Click the three-dot actions menu and choose View History.
- Find the entry for the deleted Step or Section. It will read “Deleted Step …” or “Deleted Section Header …”.
- Click Undo this next to that entry.
The Step or Section is reactivated in place and appears again in the editor.
The same change log is also available as the Change Log tab on the Workflow’s report page if you prefer the full-page view.
Things to know
- Only users who can manage the Workflow (master admins and department admins for the Workflow’s department) can delete or restore Steps and Sections.
- Restoring a Section also restores the Steps that were inside it at the time it was deleted.
- The history is not time-limited — old deletions can still be undone as long as the activity entry is still in the log.
- If you delete a Step that has no title, that deletion is not recorded in history and cannot be undone from View History. Give Steps a title before deleting them if you might want to restore them.
If you cannot find the deletion entry or the Undo this button is missing, email support@manifest.ly and we can help recover it.
